After looking at the information about moving the availability zone of a VM in this link https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/move-azure-vms-avset-azone. I believe the answer "Change the availability zone of a VM" is correct. Why is this not the case?

Could you help me understand this question and answers?

I think the problem here is the wording, as people alluded to - you can't simply move a Virtual Machine between availability zones using the default portal UI.

You can, however, use Azure Site Recovery to do it - also with the Portal.

I think there were assumptions by the author that you just couldn't do it with a click of the button in the portal (like Moving resources between Resource Groups); you would have to go and purposely set up Azure Site Recovery, it is not just out of the box.

Hello Jelmer van der Hoeven (NL)

The question is asking about actions that can be performed using the graphical user interface (GUI) in the Azure portal. The Azure portal provides a web-based interface with a graphical representation of Azure resources, allowing users to manage and configure various aspects of their Azure environment.

The answers should identify two actions that can be performed specifically through the Azure portal's GUI.

Here are a few examples of actions that can be performed using the GUI in the Azure portal:

Creating and managing virtual machines (VMs): The Azure portal allows you to create and manage VMs by selecting the desired configuration options, such as VM size, operating system, storage, and networking settings, through a series of graphical forms and wizards.

Configuring and managing Azure App Services: The Azure portal provides a graphical interface for managing Azure App Services, such as web apps and mobile apps. You can deploy applications, configure application settings, scale resources, and monitor performance through the GUI.

Setting up and managing Azure virtual networks (VNets): With the Azure portal, you can create and configure virtual networks by defining subnets, setting up network security groups, establishing peering connections, and managing network gateways through a graphical interface.

Monitoring and analyzing Azure resources: The Azure portal offers built-in monitoring and diagnostics capabilities. You can view metrics, set up alerts, and analyze logs and diagnostics data for Azure resources, all through the GUI.

Hi @Jelmer van der Hoeven (NL) ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A community forum!

Availability zones expands the level of control you have to maintain the availability of the applications and data on your VMs. An Availability Zone is a physically separate zone, within an Azure region. There are three Availability Zones per supported Azure region.

You can select the availability zone of a vm when you create it

    az

You cannot move a VM to a different availability zone; however, you can create a copy of it in a different availability zone. To change the availability zone of a VM: Create a snapshot of each of the VM's disks, see Creating a disk snapshot.

The other two are correct as through the portal you can create new resources, and see the ones you are using

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Luca
