Hi all! We have a new problem where Excel in our RDS 2022 environment will say a newly created Excel file will say it is locked "by another user". They can open excel, create a blank document, enter anything, save the document to the net share location, and when they try to open it again, Excel says the file is locked.

We have rebooted the RDS environment, made sure MSO is patched (Version 2108 (Build 14332.20517)). We have tried Open and Repair, saving in different formats, but once saved, reopening by any user (including the creator) and Excel says locked by another user.

Let me know what logs to grab!

    Hi Kent,

As you mentioned you've tried to fix this issue using Open and Repair and other methods. I think you should also try these methods-

    1. Make sure that the file and the folder where the file is saved have the necessary permissions for all users. Make sure users have the necessary read and write permissions.
    2. Disable the Preview Pane feature in Windows Explorer as it can sometimes lead to such situations. If it is enabled, you simply click on "Preview Pane" again to disable it.
    3. Check the Anti Virus settings to ensure it is not causing conflicts or locking Excel files. Try disabling it temporarily.
    4. Make sure that both Windows and Office are up to date with recent updates.

    Best Regards.
