Exchange 2019 CONNECT_RESET_ERROR

I am running Exchange 2019 on Windows Server 2022.

We had a power failure Tuesday morning. Power was finally restore late Wednesday afternoon. When all servers (2 DCs, 1 Exchange) were running again. Attempting to load the OWA or ECP site resulted in a "CONNECT_RESET_ERROR"

In Event viewer I get an WAS Event ID 5011, which appears to be caused by MSExchangePowerShellFrontEndAppPool.

I have tried numerous things and nothing has resolved the issue. These include

  • Disabling the firewall
  • running SFC
  • running disk cleanup
  • verified all Application Pools are running.
  • Installed all available updates
  • Running Debug Diagnostics tool - which claims to have no issues

The hardware usage is as follows

  • CPU Usage fluctuates between 2 and 3 %
  • Memory usage is at 35% (of 24 gig)

Is it possible to uninstall IIS then reinstall IIS with all Exchange services stopped? If not, am I left with any options other than uninstalling Exchange and starting over or wiping, restarting and starting over?

Hi @Kevin,> Is it possible to uninstall IIS then reinstall IIS with all Exchange services stopped?

To my knowledge there is no supported method to reinstall IIS when Exchange is installed.

There are a few things I would suggest having a check:

1.After the reboot or if configured manually, can all the Exchange services return to "Running" status?

If not, can you find other error events like Event 2080 in Event Viewer>Application log?

2.Can you open Exchange Management Shell?

3.Have you start the Default web site and Exchange back end IIS sites? If you cannot start these sites, what is the detailed error message?

If it is impossible to restore the Exchange server to a functional state, do you have backups before the power failure?

If yes please consider restoring from the backups.
