    Hello,

below you will find a brief explanation of each mailbox:

    User mailboxes:

User mailboxes are assigned to individual users in your Exchange organization. User mailboxes provide your users with a rich platform for collaboration. Users can send and receive messages, manage their contacts, schedule meetings, and manage a task list. They can also have voicemail messages delivered to their mailboxes. User mailboxes are the most commonly used mailbox type, and it is usually this mailbox type that is assigned to users in an organization.

    Resource mailboxes:

Resource mailboxes are special mailboxes that are to be used for scheduling resources. Like all mailbox types, a resource mailbox has an associated Active Directory user account, but it must be a disabled account. The following are the types of resource mailboxes:

    Room mailboxes:

these mailboxes are assigned to meeting locations, such as conference rooms, lecture halls, and training rooms.

    Device mailboxes:

These mailboxes are assigned to resources that are not site-specific, such as portable computers, projectors, microphones, or company cars.

Both types of resource mailboxes can be included in meeting requests, making it easy and efficient to use resources for users. You can configure resource mailboxes to automatically process incoming meeting requests based on resource booking policies defined by resource owners. For example, a conference room can be configured to automatically accept incoming meeting requests except for meeting series that must be approved by the resource owner.

    Email contacts:

An email-enabled Active Directory contact that contains information about people or organizations that exist outside the Exchange organization. Each email contact has an external email address. All email messages sent to the email contact are forwarded to this external address.

    Shared mailboxes:

Shared mailboxes are not primarily assigned to individual users and are generally configured to allow access by multiple users.

While it is possible to assign additional users access permissions to any mailbox type, the shared mailboxes serve exactly this purpose. The Active Directory user assigned to a shared mailbox must be a disabled account. After a shared mailbox is created, you must assign permissions to all users who need access to the shared mailbox.
