It was the same with all browsers. Edge, Firefox and Chrome.
It wasn't confined to browsing sites either. As I noted even the help links didn't work.
It was a case of worked fine and then it didn't after adding features to IIS.
So it wasn't a browser issue.
Since posting this question I removed IIS again using the Turn Windows On And Off feature and also via the Programs list uninstall.
I also had to rename the Windows\System32\inetsrv folder manually because the removal processes didn't remove it.
I downloaded IIS Express from Microsoft and installed it.
I then had to add IIS again using the Turn Windows On And Off feature.
That sorted the problem out.
So whatever the problem was it suggests it was in the config files.
