Verbose logging in Azure VPN Client

Hi,

We're having issues with users randomly getting disconnected from Azure VPN. The server side has no useful info so we're investigating on the client side of things. However the Azure VPN Client barely logs anything, not even if I pull the network cable and it disconnects, nothing is logged.

Is there a way to enable verbose logging? I have searched extensively but without finding anything on this topic.

Thanks!

    Hello @Simon ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for reaching out & hope you are doing well.

I understand that you are having issues with users randomly getting disconnected from Azure VPN and you would like to know if there is a way to enable verbose logging for the VPN client.

The Azure VPN client should provide you the verbose logs to identify the cause of the issue.

Generally, the Azure VPN client adds 2 log files - "AzureVPNClient.Log" and "AzureVPNcxn.log". And the AzureVpnCxn.log should be quite verbose. Probably 500-1000 kb for a days' worth of logging. Please take a look into the same.

To get this log, please follow the steps below:

    • Open the VPN client.
    • Click on the three dots (...) beside the connection name.
    • Click Diagnose.
    • Click on "show logs directory."
    • In that directory, you will have 2 logs - AzureVPNClient.log and AzureVpnCxn.log.

    Additional Info:

Regarding your issue, where users are randomly getting disconnected from Azure VPN. Is it happening in a 1-hour interval?

If yes, then it is known issue with Azure VPN client version 3.1.2.0 for Windows, where rekey failure causes disconnect. Please check your Azure VPN client version to validate if this is the case.

In this case, you could either change the Azure VPN client version or raise a support request for the support team to engage the backend team, who can apply a fix from the backend.
