Hello Team,

I am trying to instance HAXM in my azure vm(v2 d3 instance - hyper-v is installed), but haxm complaints that VMX is not enabled. And when i search as to how to enable vmx every source points that it should be enabled from BIOS. So in azure vm how do i enable VMX. 

And is it possible to run android emulator in azure vm v2 d3 or is it not possible.

I think you selected the correct version but you need to enable VMX on hyperV-VM also

To enable VMX for a Hyper-V VM you can run the following command (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/user-guide/nested-virtualization)

Set-VMProcessor -VMName <VMName> -ExposeVirtualizationExtensions $true

To run the Android Emulator on an Azure VM, you need to choose a VM size that supports something called “nested virtualization.” One such size is D3_v3. The v2 D-series, however, does not support this feature. Also, it’s important to note that you don’t need to install Hyper-V.

As for running the Android Emulator on an Azure VM, it is possible, but it only runs on a specific type of agent called the “Hosted macOS agent.”

@Sedat SALMAN Hello salman, thanks for you response. But i am not creating a vm inside my azure vm(the actual nested case), but i am trying to directly run android emulator inside the azure vm(not nested vm). I get that android emulator itself is an separate vm but for my case i have to install HAXM inside azure vm. When doing this it says VMX enabled - No. So wanted to know how to enable VMX for my root azure vm.

To my knowledge this command - Set-VMProcessor -VMName <VMName> -ExposeVirtualizationExtensions $true is used to enable VMX in nested vm(vm created inside azure vm) kindly correct me if i am wrong.

yes you are right
at first, i thought you are trying to install your emulator inside Hyper-V sorry for the misunderstanding

here you can see which VMs support VMX three * machines are Intel four * machines are AMD

for example D_v3 or Ds_v3

Thanks again for the information mine is Standard_D2s_v3 and i see in the doc that virtualization is supported but how do i enable this in the vm. I am not able to find any options to enable that or maybe i am missing something. If you know any such options to enable that option do let me know.

@Prrudram-MSFT Thanks for your response but this does not answer my question, i am attaching screenshots of the error i am facing. So if you see in the image VMX enabled - No, how do i enable this option in my azure vm. And is using bluestacks recommended?

the error is interesting since it should be enabled by default

can you check the following link on how to enable virtualization inside Windows machine

Hi @Sedat SALMAN - Checked that info but those are for physical machines i guess. And now i tried to create a nested vm and creation was successful but trying to run throws an error,

I checked the hyper-V status it is running,

I guess there seems to be some issue with the azure vm maybe i should try with other vm size's.

The real issue wrt installing HAXM was because of GEN-2 VM configuration as pointed out by https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76614055/not-able-to-install-haxm-in-azure-vm

Now i was able to install HAXM, but not able to run android emulator :( it says running emulator on nested virtualization it may not work and emulator also is crashing. Any help to solve this issue would be appreciated, i am also trying out different vm configs to see if something works out.
