Hello, How versioning on onedrive work? Example if we open word file then we save 5 times, this will make 5 version?

Per my test, if you only open and close the file one time, modify and save it five times, it will only display one time in the Version History. If you open, modify, save and close the file multiple times, it will record multiple times in the Version History.

So the versioning will created when we close the file and not if we save the file? IF the file size is 1MB and we have 50 versioning for that file, this mean we used 50MB space on the OneDrive?

Yes, the versioning will be recorded when users close the file and not save the file.

If the file size is 1MB and it has 50 versioning, this means that it uses 50MB space in the OneDrive.

How many max versioning can we have also there are default value for versioning?

SharePoint will automatically save the last 500 versions of a document.

So SharePoint or ondrive by default enabled 500 versioning, there are maximum number versioning can we set?

If you enable the versioning in the document library, even if you do not set version number, SharePoint will automatically save the last 500 versions of a document. At the same, SharePoint allows users to set a range of 100-50000 major versions, the maximum number of minor versions of each major version is 511.
