I have a version of Window Embedded standard here, and my issue is the password has been forgotten. I have looked allover the internet but I haven't found anything that helps so I thought I would post a question here. How do I reset a profile password on a system like this? There are no other users so far as I am aware and I don't have any qualms about losing any info that might be stared on it so if I need to do some sort of factory reset I will do that.

    Hello Josh,

Thank you for your question and for reaching out with your question today.

If you have forgotten the password for a user profile on a Windows Embedded Standard system, you can try the following methods to reset the password:

Method 1: Reset Password Using a Password Reset Disk (if available)

If you have previously created a password reset disk for the user account, you can use it to reset the password. Here's how:

    1. On the Windows login screen, click "Reset Password" or similar link.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset the password using the password reset disk.

Method 2: Reset Password Using Another Administrator Account

If there is another administrator account on the system, you can use it to reset the password for the forgotten account. Here's what you can do:

    1. Log in to the system using the other administrator account.
    2. Press "Windows + R" to open the Run dialog box, type "lusrmgr.msc", and press Enter. This will open the Local Users and Groups management console.
    3. Expand "Users" in the left pane, right-click on the user account for which you want to reset the password, and select "Set Password".
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to set a new password for the account.

Method 3: Reset Password Using a Bootable USB Drive

If you don't have access to a password reset disk or another administrator account, you can use a bootable USB drive with password reset tools to reset the password. There are various third-party tools available, such as "Offline NT Password & Registry Editor" or "Kon-Boot," which can help you reset the password.

Please note that using third-party tools can be advanced and may carry some risks. It's important to carefully follow the instructions provided by the tool's documentation or website.

Method 4: Perform a Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If none of the above methods work or if you are willing to lose all the data on the system, you can perform a factory reset to restore the system to its original settings. Keep in mind that this will remove all personal files and installed applications.

The exact steps for performing a factory reset may vary depending on the specific device or manufacturer. Generally, you can access the recovery options by pressing a specific key during the system startup, such as F11 or F12. Consult the system documentation or the manufacturer's website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset on your specific device.

It's important to note that performing a factory reset will erase all data on the system, so it's crucial to have a backup of any important files before proceeding.

Remember to always use these methods responsibly and respect the privacy and security of others.
