Delete permanently storage account and re-create in new tenant

I would like to permanently delete a storage account in an old tenant and then re-create it with the same name in a new tenant.

For now I cannot do that because it says that the name has already been taken.

As per this document, this error can occur if you try to deploy a new storage account with the same name as a storage account that already exists in Azure. The existing storage account name might be in your subscription or tenant, or anywhere across Azure. Storage account names must be globally unique across Azure.

Code=StorageAccountAlreadyTaken Message=The storage account named storageckrexph7isnoc is already taken.

Common reasons for this error are because the storage account name uses invalid characters or is a duplicate name. Storage account names must meet the following criteria:

Length between 3 and 24 characters with only lowercase letters and numbers.

Must be globally unique across Azure. Storage account names can't be duplicated in Azure.

Another storage account with the same name has not been created by someone else.

Secondly, container soft delete protects your data from being accidentally or erroneously modified or deleted. When container soft delete is enabled for a storage account, a container and its contents may be recovered after it has been deleted, within the retention period that you specify.

Please check your retention policy as it may take a certain number of days (based on the retention policy) for the storage account to be deleted. It is possible that your deleted storage account is still in recycle mode (i.e. not yet deleted).

You can use the recovery procedure to see if it's still listed as recoverable, it would mean that the name/domain is still being held.

Navigate to the list of your storage accounts in the Azure portal.

Select the Restore button to open the Restore deleted account pane.

Select the subscription for the account that you want to recover from the Subscription drop-down.

From the dropdown, select the account to recover. If the storage account that you deleted is not in the dropdown, then it implies it has been deleted and you should be able to create another one with the same name. If the storage account name shows up in the dropdown, then you would need to wait till the retention policy period (for example, 14 days) to create a new storage account with the same name.

We were successfully able to delete the Storage account in the backend and able to recreate the same name storage account "styumiplatformuat" in the new tenant.
