M365 F3 licensed users still showing to have Online Archive

Hi,

We have moved some users from E1 to F3 (M365 F3). As per Microsoft site, it states Online Archive is not available for F3. However for users who got F3 still has access to Online Archive and have necessary quota (50GB) which was earlier there. Will it remain the same?

By research, Exchange Online Archiving is available with Microsoft 365 F3 plan. Please refer to the highlight:

If you see the plan comparison it states no archiving is included. Even in the article you shared i think it meant that it requires an add-on license for M365 F3 license.

Does the online archive of user mailboxes still work now? I got it wrong about F3, in theory, there will be a buffer time after the subscription is downgraded, and some features can continue to be used for a period of time, please make preparations such as backups during this time.

Yes even after 2 weeks i can still see users who were moved to F3, their Online Archive is still active and works fine.

@GoodResource Thanks for your reply. Could you please provide more details about user licenses, only F3? make sure no other licenses are stacked.

Hi, yes only F3 with Exchange Online Kiosk license is ticked. No other add-on or any other exchange license is assigned other than F3. 100GB of Online Archive is enabled.

OK, through my research, the Online Archive is included in Exchange Online plan 1, which means every Office 365 SKU apart from kiosk gets it. For this lower tier however, the quota is shared between the primary and archive mailboxes. Exchange Online Plan 2 (E3 and above) gives you the 100GB/unlimited quota. The doc looks to update.

Jarvis Sun-MSFT, hi not sure i understand completely. We are moving people from E1 to F3 without any add-on. So exchange online plan will change from plan 1 to "kios" plan. My question is will the online archive which was there for Plan 1 will be deleted completely after some days of moving to "kiosk" plan?

Looks like a gap from Microsoft. Whether or not this can create a compliance issue is a concern though if/when licenses are downgraded. Does anyone know of an easy way to bring archives back to the mailbox?
