I know this has been an issue for years and there is a workaround available- SCCM office 365 update Error 0x80040154 ( -2147221164 ), class not registered

But has anyone ever found out the actual fix to prevent this from happening in the first place? Every month, I'm having to run the script on all new devices if/when they error out. I thought I would get ahead of it by putting the script in the TS that builds the devices but that didn't help as they still error out the first time updates are run the following month.

There's no error in the TS script so it is running but I'm guessing it's not actually taking effect/doing anything. Does someone need to login to the device first and open Office, then run the re-register script? Just trying to get more info on this issue so we can figure out how best to fix it without waiting to see if they error out during updates.

    Hi,

Error 0x80040154 (-2147221164), which indicates a class registration error, can indeed be encountered during Office 365 updates in SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).

This issue has been reported by many users. The workaround you mentioned, running a script to re-register the Office components, is a common solution to address the issue after it has occurred.

Office 365 and SCCM are regularly updated, so it's essential to keep an eye on the latest information and documentation from Microsoft and the community for any new fixes or best practices that may have emerged.
