Using SharePoint Hybrid as a cloud route to access on-premises data in a SharePoint server in the organization

I have configured SharePoint Hybrid linked to Office 365, and I would like to know how it works, does it serve as a file image and the user is directed to the document location or it creates a document replica, where it can be deleted, and everything else.

A hybrid SharePoint deployment is a link between a SharePoint Server farm and Office 365. It also can be called as a redirection. It does not create a replica.

When you have established this link (redirection), you can configure integrated functionality between services and features such as Search, Follow, and user profiles.
