Implementing DLP and data lifecycle management in M365 is a solid move for protecting your data. However, these measures don't replace the need for a backup solution. Microsoft's built-in features offer some level of recovery, but they're mainly about accidental deletion or versioning issues, not comprehensive backup. For instance, while Microsoft secures your data against service faults, it doesn't guard against data loss from accidental deletions beyond the retention periods or targeted cyber attacks like ransomware. That's where having an external backup comes into play. It gives you the ability to recover data beyond the standard retention periods and offers additional security layers. To manage storage and ensure you have enough space for retention policies within M365, you'll need to regularly review and adjust your storage plans, potentially purchasing additional space as needed. But for peace of mind and more robust data protection, consider third-party backup solutions like Nakivo. These tools are designed to work seamlessly with M365, providing comprehensive backups of OneDrive, Exchange Online, and SharePoint data that go beyond what's built-in, ensuring you're covered no matter what happens.
