Changing the owner of an existing SharePoint

Dear Sir and Madam,

i have a question. I have to redesign the SharePoint in my company, but first of all i need to get all the from the current holder. The website exists since 3-6 years now and the current owner isnt in our pant anymore. Could you tell me how the owner can transfer me his holder rights?

Here are two options available for this issue:

Option 1: You can log in to this site using the previous owner account if you have and add a new user to the default owner group, then the user will be granted full control permission as the owner.

You can do this by following the steps below:

1.Click the Settings in the Upper right corner, select the Site permissions.

2.Select the Advanced permissions settings

3.Click the Owners Group, and click New to add users to this group.

4.Enter the user's email address and click Share. The user then receives an invitation email. You can go to the site as instructed by the email.

Option 2: You can log in to SharePoint admin center with a URL https://tenant-admin.sharepoint.com/, add new users in the site owner group.

Note that this requires a tenant administrator account. You can refer to the following steps:

1.Go the admin center with URL https://tenant-admin.sharepoint.com/ like below, sign in with your tenant administrator account.

2.Click the Active sites in the left navigation, and search the sites you want to set and click it. User's image

3.Click the Membership and select site owners, click Add site owners, enter the user's email address, and Add it. User's image

4.The user then receives an invitation email. You can go to the site as instructed by the email.

Is there any difference among all these options? Do I need to remove the previous owner for each available option, or is it sufficient to use the first method, and the old owner won't be the head anymore?

Hi Loos, Michael, for both options, they add the new user to a group that has full control permissions on the site, site owners in this group have full control permissions to the site for the site, which can be edited in the site. And the old owner remains.

If the old owner is not logged out later, the current operation is sufficient for normal work.

You can also remove the old owner account after adding a new owner account to prevent future cancellations of the old owner account from affecting access to the site. This owner is for the team and also has full control permissions to the site, but it is not editable in the site. Currently this operation can only be done in the admin center.

By the way, URL https://{tenant}-admin.sharepoint.com/ is used to access the admin center, {tenant} needs to be changed to your tenant's name. Finally, such a page will be visited. Sorry for not explaining it clearly in a previous reply: )

ok the tenant name of my SharePoint is Siemens. I have no permissions to access this website. How does this work in my case because i asked the owner too, if he has the necessary permissions, but he also hasnt. This is the link on our SharePoint https://siemens.sharepoint.com/teams/P0013218/SitePages/Home.aspx there you can see that the tenant is siemens. Is it possible for you to tell me who the owner of the general SharePoint is, so i can get in touch with the person.

Hi Loos, Michael,

You can access to your admin center by URL https://siemens-admin.sharepoint.com

And this requires a SharePoint / Global administrator account to sign in. You can ask your IT department for this account : )
