Should en->es translation of "female" be "femenino" or "mujer" rather than "hembra"?

Our users find it offensive when the English word "female" is translated to "hembra". Any way the translation service could be updated to use "femenino" when the source text does not provide context on whether it's about people, things, or animals? This would match google translate's behavior.
