We have group policy set up for Microsoft Edge but we never set a policy for InPrivateModeAvailability we left as not configured and always had worked. But now private mode is grayed out and says managed by your organization which it is not. We don’t have this set in the group policy manager but edge says we do under edge://policy/ InPrivateModeAvailability. The value is set to 1. So I set it to 0 in the group policy management editor and Ran gpupdate /force and still won’t work. Now it says there a conflict. I also ran gpresult /scope computer /v I can see where it is set it to 0. And I go to regedit and go to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\InPrivateModeAvailability it says 1 and tried to set it to 0 and get an error. Error writing the value’s new contents. I think this error started after doing a windows update.

All help is appreciated.

    Hi @Technomage

From edge://policy/, it shows you set InPrivateModeAvailability to 1 under computer configuration and set InPrivateModeAvailability to 0 under user configuration, that's why it shows conflict. For the error "Error writing the value's new contents", it may be caused by you don't have full permission to edit registry settings.

You can try the following two methods:

    • In the group policy management editor, set the policy to 0 under Computer Configuration.User's image
    • If using group policy management editor doesn't work, you can run Registry Editor as administrator, then edit the registry setting. You can also refer to this answer to check if you have full permission to edit registry keys. User's image

After taking to Microsoft Tech Support there was windows update that broke that depending on how you had your group policy set and could not change them back but they had released windows update to fix that.
