Is there any way to revert to the old map style?

We're using 'grayscale_dark' for our maps. The new tiles contains a lot more details, is there any way to continue using the old tiles?

In another version, we're using Get Map Tile API, and specifying api-version=2.1 still renders the new styles for the tiles.

I don't believe so. In certain countries, like China, South Korea, and Japan, map data must be hosted in those countries and is often only available as image tiles (not vector tiles). Azure Maps recent update now includes detailed maps of these countries but gets the data from Bing Maps and as such modified the map styles to align with the image tiles being used. This provides consistency between when viewing maps in those regions and also consistency between these two map platforms.

That said, I'll be sure to pass your feedback on to the Azure Maps and Bing Maps teams as they may be able to update all of these over time.

Actually, further to what Ricky notes, you can give direct feedback to the Microsoft Maps team on the styles by just going to https://www.bing.com/maps? and setting it to the Dark theme then tap the feedback button on the map itself. Fill in the exact issue like "The labels are too dark to read in the dark theme" and this will get to the style folks far faster than having us report it internally.

https://feedback.azuremaps.com/ is rendering the old styles, does this mean if we continue using azure-maps-control 2.0, it will still be showing the old styles or will it eventually display the new styles?

Actually, what the feedback site does is it specifies a minor version number when loading the map control and that minor version hasn't been upgraded yet. This is not documented, but something that was purposely put in place was the ability to specify minor version numbers to access the SDK as a way for tech support to help customers get back online if a breaking change occurred. Until v3 preview, most examples only use a major version number when accessing the SDK, and that automatically grabs the latest minor version. Specifying a specific minor version is meant to be a temporary solution until a breaking change is either fixed, or a customer update their code accordingly. So, with this in mind, it is possible to get the old style by pointing to an earlier minor version that doesn't include the new map styles. That said, it's possible that by doing this the map control will break in the future if that style information is ever removed from the system. Doing some testing it appears the map style changed in version 2.2, so pointing to version 2.1 will give you the old map style. If using the hosted version of the SDK, here is the CSS/JS links.

If using NPM you can simply modify the version number in your package.json file and reinstall.

Note: Pointing to a specific minor version will also prevent any future updates/bug fixes from automatically being added to the map.

We are affected as well, it is quite unexpected to get behavior change without any prior 'beta', or not by adding new map styles.
