Correct procedures to deal with VMs when rebooting the hosts

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday!! It will be my first time to do VMs and Hyper v maintenance tonight!

I would like to ask:

1.) Can I reboot the host without shutting down any vms? I read some info, and learn that the VMs will be in "pause" mode (without shutting down) during the host rebooting. Is it true?

2.) What about domain controllers? Should I shut it down also before rebooting the host?

Thank you for your help.

    Hi @Takami Chiro ,

Yes, Hyper-V will save the virtual machine state when the host shuts down and automatically start it when the host starts by default. These actions can be configured in Automatic Start Action and Automatic Stop Action in VM settings.

If the domain controller is a VM on this host, it's best to move it to another host before you shut the host down.

    Best Regards,
