VBA project remain open in VBA Editor when I close the workbook (Excel)

Recent move to Office 365, problem seems to be happening across entire company.

Any workbooks (with or without macros) that are opened and then closed remain open and visible in the VBA project editor. If you open it again, then you have 2 instances, etc.

Workbooks are on hard drive (not SharePoint or OneDrive).

Exit Excel and once open again the problem is cleared. After some period of time, it seems you must reboot to clear the issues - appears to hog memory.

Does NOT occur in Word, only Excel.

I disabled ALL add-ins, no change.
I do not have Google drive running.
Removed Data Streamer, no change.
Removed Acrobat, no change.

All file locations in setup point to hard drive.

I am aware this is an old problem without a solution. I had this problem some years ago and removing Adobe Acrobat .COM seemed to work, but not this time.

    Hi,

I think I have seen this issue being faced by others in the past.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue-

    1. To make sure that all of the Excel components are operating properly, repair your Office 365 installation.
    2. Despite the fact that you said to disable all add-ins, it's still important to check for any COM add-ins that might be causing issues. To disable any listed add-ins, navigate to File > Options > Add-Ins, select "Manage," then click "Go..." to the "COM Add-ins" section.
    3. In addition to COM add-ins, look for any third-party add-ins that might be the source of the issue. Even if an add-in is not listed in the Excel Add-ins dialogue box, conflicts may still arise. Remove any add-ins from third parties for the moment and check if the problem still exists.
    4. Search the Windows Event Viewer for any associated error messages or events that could provide more information about the problem.
    5. Check for any pending Office updates and install them.
    6. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date because corrupted or old drivers can occasionally cause Excel problems.

    Best Regards.
