How to create a channel in the new Stream format that can be linked to my SharePoint site?

In Stream Classic, we could build channels that could hold different groups of videos. I could then link the different channels to different pages on my SharePoint site. Now that I am unable to upload videos to the channels on Stream (Classic), what is the corresponding set up to the new Stream (SharePoint)? My SharePoint site does not have an option to adding a Stream (SharePoint) web part. It only has Stream (Classic) as an option, but since I can no longer add new videos to existing channels there's no way for me to share new videos unless I add them as a stand alone video separate from the rest of the videos. It's completely disorganized and wreaking havoc on the structure of my website. For the past couple of months, anytime I create a new video, Teams will automatically add it to my One Drive, where I download it, delete it from my OneDrive, then repost it to the SharePoint site as a standalone video. Please tell me there's a better solution for this?

Hi Cadet, Sherene, welcome to forum. It is a pleasure to be able to help you : )

Per our research, currently Stream (Classic) will retire soon. Therefore, Stream (Classic) does not support uploading videos.

So I would recommend migrating files to Stream (on SharePoint) and using Stream (on SharePoint) as the primary way to manage video in the future.

You can refer to the documentation: Stream (on SharePoint), the new version of Microsoft Stream

    User's image

And the "Stream" web part only works for Stream (Classic) content at present, it doesn't work with videos from OneDrive or SharePoint.

Since Stream (Classic) is using video files stored on the retiring microsoftstream.com service and Stream (on SharePoint) is uploading and using video files directly stored in SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive.

I recommend uploading videos to Stream (on SharePoint) and using following web parts that support adding videos from OneDrive to SharePoint pages.

    • File and Media web part
    • Highlighted content web part
    • Hero web part
    • Quick Links web part

    You can refer the documentation:

    Stream (on SharePoint) FAQ

How to feature videos in Microsoft 365 with pages, sites, & portals

    Using videos on SharePoint pages

    User's image

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards
