How long does a video have to play before it is counted as a "view" on a SharePoint site? Does it have to play for a specific amount of seconds, or is it as soon as someone clicks play?

Does this also applies to those video in Stream?

    Hi @Lee, David3,

Thank you for posting in this community.

There is no clear definition of what qualifies as a view for a video in SharePoint Online. However, some possible factors that may affect the view count are:

    • The video must be played for at least a few seconds, not just clicked on.
    • The video must be played in the File and Media web part, not in a separate window or tab.
    • The video must be played by a unique visitor, not the same person multiple times.
    • The video must be stored in SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business, not in Stream (Classic) or other platforms.

Here is the article about video analytics in SharePoint: Video analytics for Stream (on SharePoint).

The view count may also depend on other factors such as caching, browser settings, network issues, etc. Therefore, the view count may not be very accurate or consistent. If you want more reliable analytics for your videos, you may want to consider using the new Stream Webpart of Stream (on SharePoint).
