Wirelessly control headless non-internet connected Windows 11 Pro PC

This is - once again- about switching on/using the Windows 11 wireless hotspot without an active internet connection...

I'd like to run a headless Windows 11 Pro computer (headless pc) to control an astronomy telescope (including cameras, focusing motors, mount, ...). This computer sits on top of the moving telescope to keep cables to the accessories short. The only wired connection to the "outside" is a 12V power supply.

The headless pc is controlled and operated "remotely" through rdp from a laptop computer by using a wireless connection and rdp. The operator of the system is - and stays - in wireless network range - close by the telescope/headless pc.

Unfortunately it seems impossible to turn on the headless pc's hotspot. Windows keeps complaining about a missing internet connection. But in this scenario the sharing of the internet connection is not desired, simply the access to the pc that runs the hotspot (the headless pc).

Remark: It is vital to keep the whole system simple and to have as little as possible additional devices and cable connections as setting up and working (outdoors) with that system at night gets painful due to dangling cables.

    Hello there,

To wirelessly control a headless and non-internet-connected Windows 11 Pro PC, you can use various remote desktop solutions that work within your local network. Here's a general outline of the steps to achieve this:

Establish Local Network Connectivity: Ensure that both your controlling device (e.g., laptop, smartphone, or tablet) and the headless Windows 11 PC are connected to the same local network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).

Enable Remote Desktop on the Windows 11 PC: On the headless PC, enable Remote Desktop:

Right-click on the Start button, select "System."

    Go to "Remote Desktop" settings.

Turn on "Remote Desktop" and note down the PC name or IP address.

Choose a Remote Desktop Software: There are various remote desktop software options available. Here are a few popular choices:

Windows Remote Desktop: Windows has a built-in Remote Desktop feature. You can use the "Remote Desktop Connection" tool on another Windows PC or download the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store on your controlling device.

TeamViewer: TeamViewer is a cross-platform remote desktop software that allows you to control Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile devices. It has free and paid versions available.

AnyDesk: AnyDesk is another reliable remote desktop application that works on multiple platforms.

Install and Configure the Remote Desktop Software: Install the remote desktop software on both the controlling device and the headless Windows 11 PC. Follow the software's instructions to set up the connection.

Connect to the Headless PC: Launch the remote desktop software on your controlling device, and then enter the PC name or IP address of the headless Windows 11 PC you want to control.

Hope this resolves your Query !!
