Dear All,
I have Windows server 2016 Domain Controller and Windows 10/11 client machines, I have configured a home page URL , that's not taking into effects on client machines, I have verified by RSOP.MSC on client machine, GPO has applied, but still MS Edge is not launching my specified URL on home page.
Someone Please suggest what I am missing, I have attached my policy setting for the reference.gpo.jpg
Hello Amit,
Thank you for your question and for reaching out with your question today.
From the provided GPO settings screenshot (gpo.jpg), it looks like you have correctly configured the Group Policy setting to set the home page URL for Microsoft Edge on client machines. However, there could be a few reasons why the specified URL is not taking effect on the client machines. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
1. **Wait for Group Policy to Apply:**
After configuring the GPO, it might take some time for the Group Policy settings to propagate to the client machines. Make sure you allow enough time for the Group Policy to be applied on the client machines.
2. **Check the Scope and Target of the GPO:**
Verify that the GPO is linked to the correct Organizational Unit (OU) that contains the client machines. Also, check if the GPO is correctly targeted to the appropriate security groups or users who should receive the policy.
3. **Check Group Policy Inheritance:**
Ensure that there are no conflicting GPOs at higher levels (e.g., domain level, parent OU level) that might override the settings of this GPO at the client machine level.
4. **Run "gpupdate" on Client Machines:**
On the client machines, open a Command Prompt or PowerShell as an administrator and run the following command to force a Group Policy update:
gpupdate /force
This command will refresh the Group Policy settings on the client machine immediately.
5. **Check Event Viewer for Errors:**
On the client machines, check the Event Viewer (under "Windows Logs" > "Application") for any errors related to Group Policy processing. This might provide additional insights into any issues encountered during policy application.
6. **Check for Proxy Settings or Other Conflicts:**
Verify that there are no conflicting settings on the client machines, such as proxy settings or browser extensions that might override the home page URL.
7. **Test with a Different Browser:**
Try setting the home page URL for a different browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Chrome) using the same GPO to see if the issue is specific to Microsoft Edge.
8. **Verify the GPO Settings:**
Double-check the GPO settings to ensure that the URL is entered correctly, and there are no typos or formatting issues.
If you've tried these troubleshooting steps and the home page URL is still not taking effect on the client machines, you may want to consider seeking further assistance from your IT team, a domain administrator, or Microsoft Support for more advanced troubleshooting.
