How to change RSV in an Azure VM

Hi all,

I need to change the RSV / Backup Policy assigned to one of my Virtual Machines and I checked some articles in the in internet and it seems that I need to stop the backup, disable soft delete in RSV, delete data backup of this specified VM then assign a new RSV/Policy to virtualm machine.

But the best way to proceed in my case would be retain data in old RSV and not delete. I tried to retain the data but with this I cant assign the VM in new RSV.

Does anyone can help me if theres a solution?

Thanks in advance

    Hello Alex Toniati

That is absolutely correct. You need to move the VM to another RG(Can be a new or any other existing RG) in order for it to change VMs resource ID. The reason for this act is to make the VM instance ID as new in the azure service side in order for it to get registered under backup service once again as a new VM. As long as the existing resource ID is same it won't register with the backup service.

After this I bet you know what to do next..

    Good luck!
