We have a retention policy which retains data for x years. I need to decommission the tenant. As a result I need to extract that data out.

I have already copied the current data sitting in SharePoint and Onedrive to the other tenant.

If we use ediscovery to report and extract data retained upto x years back then would it also include the data that I have already copied for Sharepoint and Onedrive?

And would it also contain the items that users deleted and previous versions of documents that I already copied over to Sharepoint and Onedrive?

With Ediscovery is there a way to report only the data that was deleted (or older file versions) and is kept only because of the retention policy and not the data that is currently sitting in Sharepoint/Onedrive (as I have already copied over data for Sharepoint and Onedrive).

    Hi,

It will be trial and error method to look for the data that you are looking for as the search string is wide with multiple options so date range is one option and other option is KQL queries for start with.

Also check the statistics of the data that is displayed and you will need to filter the data and customize your search and export feature - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/purview/ediscovery-view-keyword-statistics-for-content-search

    Hope this helps.
