I just got a brand new Server 2019 installed and joined to an On-premise Domain. I would like to migrate data from a 2008 server to this new server 2019. I want to migrate Shares only and not the entire server. Can I use Storage migration service (sms) to select only the shares that I want? If not what is the best tool?

    Hi @Dbell ,

The Storage Migration Service (SMS) will unfortunately perform a cut-over from the source to the destination server, so in your scenario it's unfortunately not a suitable solution.

You could simply use Robocopy / Xcopy to copy all the folders and files, with all the permissions, and then export -> import the registrt information which contains the information about the shares.

Thank you so much. This is very helpful, I will use Robocopy as I am only interested in moving folders.
