Microsoft Edge Can't read and write to its data directory

Hi,

I currently have an issue where my managed device has 2 user folders for a user (KyleTest and AzureAD_KyleTest_$).

The user does not have any Read/Write permissions to the AzureAD_KyleTest_$ user folder; therefore, I get a "Microsoft Edge can't read and write to its data directory". This is because it doesn't have access to the file path.

I am not sure how to give the user access using Intune to give permission to this folder. As far as I know it should have access to it.

this issue might be caused by the user account not having required permissions to the MS Edge data directory as correctly captured in the screenshot you shared. This is a sample Powershell script you can try using to resolve the issue:

$FolderPath = 'C:\Users\AzureAD_KyleTest$\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data' $UserAccount = 'AzureAD\KyleTest' $Acl = Get-Acl $FolderPath $AccessRule = New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule($UserAccount, 'FullControl', 'ContainerInherit,ObjectInherit', 'None', 'Allow') $Acl.SetAccessRule($AccessRule) Set-Acl $FolderPath $Acl

Please replace the $FolderPath and $UserAccount in the script with your actual folder path and user account. Also, you need to run this script with administrator rights to be able to change permissions.

You can deploy this script using Intune. Here is how to do it:

Sign in to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center.

Select Devices > Scripts > Select your Platform > Add.

Provide a Name and Description for the script, select Next.

In Script settings, for Script location select the browse button and then select your PowerShell script.

Select Next, and then assign the script to the appropriate groups.

Select Next, review your settings, and then select Add to save your settings.
