Can't sign up for Azure - form thinks my cell is a VOIP number

I am trying to sign up for an Azure account at https://signup.azure.com , but when I enter my phone number, the error message is:

Sorry, we do not accept Voice over IP (VOIP) numbers. Try again with a different number.

This has been my cell phone number for 16 years, so I'm not sure why it's being falsely identified as a VOIP number. Any thoughts about next steps?

I had the same issue, and after checking different scenarios, the operator updated my name in a part of the profile (they said it was empty in that box), and it was solved.

what a joke. another Microsoft feature.. cannot even sign-up! WOW... really great MS!

I tried over and over.. like it was going to change.. tried actual Goog Voice numbers.. nadda.. come on!!! and just yesterday, I had to 100% turn off Hello Sign-In.. cuz it locked me out of my laptop randomly. Efficiency how?

there's my tech rant I guess.
