Discovered VHD files on a computer. Are these split from a backup or a virtual machine

I was looking for a backup of one of my machines and came across a set of three VHD files that I don't remember creating! The files are named and sized as follows

ThinkCentre-AAA.VHD Size 232gig

ThinkCentre-AAA-0.VHD Size 227gig

ThinkCentre-AAA-1.VHD Size 0 bytes

All are of the same date. Are these some kind of split backup? They're the only files I can find for this machine which has crashed and needs to be restored so I'd appreciate any help. Thx!

    Hello @Anthony Aldridge ,

Based on the file names and sizes you provided, it appears that these are VHD files created by Windows Backup. The VHD files are used to store the backup data for the machine named "ThinkCentre-AAA".

The file "ThinkCentre-AAA.VHD" is likely the base VHD file, which contains the initial backup data. The files "ThinkCentre-AAA-0.VHD" and "ThinkCentre-AAA-1.VHD" are likely incremental VHD files, which contain the changes made to the machine since the initial backup was taken.

When restoring the machine, you will need to use the base VHD file and any incremental VHD files that were created after the base VHD file. You can use the Windows Backup and Restore feature to restore the machine from these VHD files.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

If this does answer your question, please accept it as the answer as a token of appreciation.
