We have exchange 2016 hybrid server within the domain. When user is created on premise exchange then local devices such as printer can send email to the user using hybrid exchange as the user exist in the hybrid exchange but when the user is created in Office 365 admin portal then we can not see the new created user and the printers can not send the email to the user if Hybrid exchange is set as SMTP server on the Printer because the user mailbox does not exist on premise exchange server. Has anyone come across this issue before and how to resolve it?

Where does the AD account live? if on-prem, you can simply enable the remote mailbox.

If the account is Azure only, then you can't create a remote mailbox on-prem

If you are syncing from on-prem to 365, then you need to provision these as remote mailboxes on-prem to make this work
