Steps taken:
Reinstalled certificate
Recreated outlook profile

  • issue remained unresolved

User keeps getting following pop-up when sending a mail that has an certificate attached. It started when she needed a new PC recently and we installed the certificate again.

seems to be related to private key protection called CryptographyAPI. But i have no idea how to resolve this.

Any help in this matter is appreciated.

    Hi @Jasper Ferbiest

According to the error message, it seems to be a problem in Windows, and it may be that the private key of the certificate has strong protection enabled.

I found some solutions for similar threads, you can refer to:

windows 10 - Which app is giving this pop-up? "To allow the app to access your private key, enter the password" - Super User.

c# - How to suppress "An application is requesting access to a protected item" popup - Stack Overflow.

    Hello,

when you export the certificate from the source, you need to be sure to export the "private key" with the certificate (with the .PFX extension/format).

When the private key is well exported, the assistant should ask you to set a password. If you don't have a password to reinstall the certificate, it means that the certificate will be unavailable.

To verify if a certificate is in correct state for the user, you should see a "key" associated to the badge.ExchangeTemp

    Regards,
