My Dell Latitude e5570 appears to have a virus in my EUFI.

What I have tried:

  • Ran virus detection in Win 11 no hits.
  • Ran virus detection in Debian 12, no hits.
  • Ran "clean" at terminal.
  • Tried to reinstall Win 11, but no joy.
  • Tried to install Debian, but no joy.
  • Eventually, my SSD was not found by the BIOS.
  • Reset to factory defaults, but no joy.
  • Removed the C, OS battery and replaced. Settings from previous setup were still available.
  • My SSD is still not being detected.
  • Run Dell diagnostics which shows the SSD and reports it and everything else is OK.

So it is the EUFI I think.

If the SSD is detected by DELL Diagnostic tool but not by your system that doesn't mean the system is affected by virus.

If your computer has multiple SATA slots, try connecting the SSD to a different slot. This can help determine if the issue is with a specific slot.

You may try checking SSD on a different machine,

From what you explained, this problem started after you download and run a file. In that case, try submit it to:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission

Explain about issues and behaviors and you may also add link to this discussion and wait for the response from Microsoft Anti-Malware team.

    Meanwhile, submit the sample to:

    https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload

See if any Anti-Malware product could detect it?
