issue with authenticator

I have seen the responses to this issue as mine also generates only 8 digits and I can not get this fixed as I can not get into my microsoft account as after i put in my password it ask for the 6 digit code. as i can not get this i am well stuck.

the othere method proposed was to remove my account from the autheticator and add it back. tried this and guess what - the authetitcator sent me to log into my microsoft account and it then asks for password and the 6 digit code.

going round in circles please help!!!!!

also loaded autheticator on another phone and tried this but agian it sends me to mcirdoft account log in, password and autheticator
