O365 with MFA. Is there a browser based extension that will work with MFA without having to use a mobile phone

In the process of switching on MFA for all users but not everyone has a mobile phone.

I have tried a few browser extensions for MFA and while they work for most accounts they will not appear to work with O365.

If there another way to get MFA working when the user has no mobile phone?

Have you looked into this document about MFA options? Not having a phone complicates MFA options. Let me know if you have any questions about the options there and I can help you further.
