second node wont power on after adding existing hdd

The error is failed to lock the file. Do I have to power down both VM's before adding existing HDD to new node in cluster. If so this will interrupt people using file share every time I add a node to the cluster.

    Hi,

If the virtual disk is attached to an IDE controller you have to shut down the virtual machine. If it is a ISCSI controller on your VM, you can add or remove the virtual disk while the virtual machine is running. This operation does not affect other nodes in the cluster and there is no need to shut down them.

    Best Regards,
