Globe with a strike through circle in taskbar - Internet access but no access to Microsoft365

We have suddenly started to notice several issues with accessing Microsoft365. On desktops we are seeing in the taskbar in place of the network connection a Globe icon with a small circle with a line through it. When like this there is no access to Microsoft365 and the licensing for the product does not reflect the "Shared Computer Activation" that is set for users. There is however, access to the internet for all other things.

I have tried this workaround but with no success.

I have also tried the usual:

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /renew

All to no avail. This is causing massive issues in the college where I work and could do with some assistance to try and rectify what the issue might be.

Many thanks in advance

Chris

    Hello

The globe icon with a strike through it in the taskbar usually indicates a network issue. However, since you mentioned that you have internet access for all other things, it seems like the issue might be specific to Microsoft 365.

Here are a few things you can try:

1.Check Microsoft 365 Service Health: Sometimes, issues with accessing Microsoft 365 can be due to problems on Microsoft’s end. You can check the Service Health page of the Microsoft 365 admin center to see if there are any known issues.

2.Reset Internet Explorer Settings: Some users have reported that resetting Internet Explorer settings can help resolve issues with Microsoft 365. To do this:

Open Internet Explorer, click on the gear icon in the upper right part of your browser, then select “Internet Options”.

Go to the “Advanced” tab and click on “Reset”.

In the “Reset Internet Explorer Settings” dialog box, select “Delete personal settings” > “Reset”.

When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, select “Close”, and then select “OK”. Restart your PC to apply these changes.

3.Repair Office: If you have Microsoft 365 installed on your computer, you might want to try repairing it. To do this:

Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

Right-click the Microsoft Office product you want to repair, and select “Change”.

Depending on whether your copy of Office is Click-to-run or an MSI-based install, do the following:

For Click-to-Run installations: In How would you like to repair your Office Programs, select “Online Repair” > “Repair” (to make sure everything gets fixed), or “Quick Repair” (to fix most issues).

For MSI-based installations: In Change your installation, select “Repair” and then click "Continue".

This was resolved by making a registry change to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet

Change the EnableActiveProbing entry to 0

After a restart this worked for us.

*please back up your registry before you make any changes
