Hi, @Glenn Maxwell
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.
Azure Update management center (preview) is currently in preview and there is no official announcement on when it will be generally available. However, it is recommended to use Automation update management till the support is available in Update management center (preview).
The major differences between Configuration Manager and Azure Update management center are that Configuration Manager is an on-premises solution for managing devices and applications, while Azure Update management center is a cloud-based solution for managing updates for all your machines.
Additionally, Configuration Manager requires infrastructure setup and maintenance, while Azure Update management center is a native service in Azure and does not require any infrastructure setup or maintenance.
