I have 2 configuration servers on the azure recovery service vault, one them is the primary.

After testing i figured out that i do not need the primary server as all the workload is switched to the secondary server, my question is how can i assign the secondary server to be the primary? so i can delete the primary server from ASR.

Thank you.

@Ahmad Radwan Thank you for reaching out to us.

I see that you want to delete configuration server (CS) (Primary) because there is a secondary CS where all the workloads are running. If you are sure that all the workloads are running on the secondary CS, you can simply delete the primary CS. Here are the steps to follow - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/physical-manage-configuration-server#delete-or-unregister-a-configuration-server

    Hello Ahmad Radwan

To assign the secondary server to be the primary in Azure Recovery Services Vault, you can follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Azure portal and sign in to your account.
    2. Select the Recovery Services vault that contains the two configuration servers.
    3. In the left navigation menu, select Servers.
    4. Select the secondary server.
    5. In the Settings section, select Make Primary.
    6. Click Save.

Once you have completed these steps, the secondary server will become the primary server and the primary server will be demoted to a secondary server. You can then delete the primary server from the Azure Recovery Services Vault.

Here are some things to keep in mind:

    • The secondary server must be healthy and have a valid registration with the Recovery Services vault.
    • You cannot make a server that is currently in use as the primary server.
    • If you have any backups or recovery points that are associated with the primary server, you will need to re-register them with the secondary server before you can delete the primary server.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
