There is suddenly an issue with training custom models that did not exist before. I am getting the error:
ModelBuildError: Could not build the model: Can't find valid fields.json file in provided dataset.
I checked the json file and all fields match and are accounted for. We've now had this issue on two projects, where we haven't changed any fields. We have labeled additional documents (with the exact same fields) and tried to retrain the model and it continues to fail. This is a recent development, just over a week ago everything work fine and now it is failing with the exact same tasks.

May I know the custom model you are using? Could you please check the fields.json file (Azure portal>storage browser related to your project) for any duplicate label names?
This issue could be due to label names. Try to rename the labels in the fields.json file and see if that helps.

2023-08-24T21:55:50.0833333+00:00 That didn't work. I double checked every field in the fields.json file and there weren't any mismatches or duplicates or any missing fields. I had to revert to an old version in Storage Explorer and re-label the items that were new since the prior fields.json file.

David Stamm 10 Reputation points2023-08-29T17:34:39.56+00:00 I had the same issue and there were duplicate fields appended to the end of the fields.json file. I was able to fix the file and train a new model.
