The SSD on my Dell Latitude 3540 does not appear in the list of drives when doing a clean install of windows 11 Pro.

Do you have any other operating system installed on the device?
Is it internal hard drive or external one?
No there is no other drive - only the SSD resident on the mainboard- the original Windows 11 installation became corrupted and I want to do a clean install of Windows 11 Pro from a USB drive created with Rufus from the downloaded ISO - but the SSD does not appear in the list of drives when installing windows 11.
Just for test, it is possible to create the Windows Installation media using Windows Media Creation tool instead of Rufus and see if the problem persists.
Are you seeing the drive in the UEFI/BIOS?
Yes I see the drive in the bios. I did create the ISO with the Windows Media Creation Tool - only choices are to burn to a USB flash drive or create the ISO - the ISO will not boot the computer so RUFUS is required - correct me if I'm wrong.

The video did not apply directly to the Dell installation of Windows 11 on the Latitude 3540, but led me in the right direction. Thank you for persevering! Problem solved.

The basic steps are to click Load Driver at this step and supply the manufacturer controller driver to continue
afraid it doesn't look supported for windows 11 but all the Dell drivers can be downloaded here.

No, unable to locate a driver.
I called Dell - they told me that the only way to reinstall Win 11 was through their Support Assist Recovery option in BIOS - they said if I try to install it from an ISO, it could damage the system - that's a new one on me!

Had the same problem on my ASUS TUF F15 FX507ZU4-LP054 with M.2 SSD PCI Express 4.0
Solution for me was to deactivate VMD in BIOS.
After that hard disk was recognized and Win 11 installation worked without any problems.
