For a software update deployment, we noticed there are around 20 systems show up as "unknown". Despite showing that client is checked and passed the active status, no other messages are displayed.

How can I identify and resolve this issue?

    Hi, @BennySurv

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

An Unknown update state means the device(s) haven’t successfully scanned against the WSUS server or haven’t been able to report the scan results to the Configuration Manager site. There are a variety of possible causes that could cause scan issues.

    1. Check if the affected systems are in the same collection as the targeted deployment.
    2. Verify that the software update point is installed and configured correctly.
    3. Ensure that the affected systems have the latest version of the Configuration Manager client installed.
    4. Run the Software Updates Scan Cycle action on the affected systems.
    5. Review the UpdatesDeployment.log and UpdatesHandler.log files on the affected systems to see if there are any errors or warnings related to the deployment.
    6. If the issue persists, try resetting the Windows Update components on the affected systems.
