An Unknown update state means the device(s) haven’t successfully scanned against the WSUS server or haven’t been able to report the scan results to the Configuration Manager site. There are a variety of possible causes that could cause scan issues.
- Check if the affected systems are in the same collection as the targeted deployment.
- Verify that the software update point is installed and configured correctly.
- Ensure that the affected systems have the latest version of the Configuration Manager client installed.
- Run the Software Updates Scan Cycle action on the affected systems.
- Review the UpdatesDeployment.log and UpdatesHandler.log files on the affected systems to see if there are any errors or warnings related to the deployment.
- If the issue persists, try resetting the Windows Update components on the affected systems.
