Problems with SharePoint site access request.

Question

New user on our tenant. Needs to go to a SharePoint site per manager. Goes there and it tells her to request access. She does. I get the access request and check with her manger, then approve it. She still can't get in even though her access is "Contributor". Repeat, same thing.

Finally, I go to the site, and add her as a member and she can get in. What am I missing here? What is the point of the access request?

Per my test, I can access the sharepoint sites by following steps, please make a reference

1. Add a new user in Microsoft 365 admin center by clcik add a user in Active users.

1. Sign in to the site with new created user and send access request

1. Login the sharepoint site with admin account and go to Site Contents

1. Click on Access Requests and approve the request

1. Then open a new tab and access the site with the new created user. If you just refesh the page in request page, you will still get access request as return.

If you still get the access error after following the steps, you cloud check the setting in the document

Yeah, that is pretty much what I did in the beginning. But no matter how many times I granted Access she would still get prompted again to request. But after I added her as a member of the site it was fine.
