External users appearing as "Unknown User" in Teams Chat (Desktop, Web and Mobile)

We use the external access functionality for Teams, to allow our users to speak to users of other specific domains.

Recently, some external users have started to appear as "Unknown User" in our Teams chats, this is on Desktop, Web and Mobile.

The general Teams functionality still works as normal, we can message and call the user.

I have also had it reported from some external users that our internal users are also appearing as "Unknown User" on their side.

All Teams clients are the latest version: You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.6.00.22378 (64-bit). It was last updated on 24/08/2023.

Unknown User

Anyone experienced this before? Know of a fix/workaround?

Thanks

    Hi @Daniel Baxter

Does this issue persist all the time?

As regards to the co-existence mode, is it different from the other users in your organization?

For current situation, please try following the steps below and see how it goes:

    1. Sign out and then quit the Teams desktop client.
    2. Navigate to C:\Users<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Teams
(Note: The AppData folder may be hidden, in this case, please go to View on the ribbon, then tick the "Show Hidden folders" box.)
    3. Delete all the content from this folder.
    4. Restart Microsoft Teams.
