Good Day Support,

I hope you are well. I am planning to migrate an old file server on Windows 2008 r2 to a different 2019 file server using Storage migration services;

1.) The old filer server 2008 r2 is in a different domain e.g xyzug.co.ug and the new file server 2019 is in xyz.co.ug

2.) My understanding is that storage migration services doesn't work across different domains.

What is the best way to go around this scenario?

Regards,

Paul

    Hello

    I am Prakash and happy to help you with your question, I'm a Microsoft consumer like you.

    If the computers are members of an Active Directory Domain Services domain, they must all be members of the same forest. If you want to transfer the source's domain name to the destination when cutting over, the destination server must also be in the same domain as the source server. Cutover technically works across domains, but the destination's fully qualified domain name differs from the source's.
