In https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/concepts/models#model-updates, there is a dropdown for model update policy. However in my Azure AI Studio, the version update policy is set to "Once a new default version is available" and I can't edit it. I want to have the ability to manually control my model updates.

Yuan Greetings & Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum!

However in my Azure AI Studio, the version update policy is set to "Once a new default version is available" and I can't edit it. I want to have the ability to manually control my model updates.

This is expected. I'm also seeing the same.

Automatic updates is available for selected model deployments. On models where automatic update support is available, a model version drop-down will be visible in Azure OpenAI Studio under Create new deployment and Edit deployment:

I'm able to see the option for GPT-35-turbo 0301 model.

As per my understanding it also depends on the region availability.

Do let me know if that helps or have any other queries.

Thank you Ashok. I tried both us central north and us east 2, neither has the model version option. "Once a new default version is available" is not desired because normally a new model version will introduce some behavior change. We'd like to test the new model and tweak our prompt before applying the new model.

The UI behavior seems to be a bug -- I was able to update the option via API, which is documented in https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/concepts/models#update--deploy-models-via-the-api.
