We have a number of departments with different configurations and apps. We use device categories to manage this within Intune, however currently the user has to manually open Company Portal and select the category once they are presented with the desktop (after Autopilot ESP).

Is there a way to prompt for the device category during the Autopilot ESP?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

Per my experience, we can not prompt for the device category during the Autopilot ESP. However, if you would like to have this feature in Intune, you can submit a feedback about this:

    Microsoft Intune feedback

You can also open an online support ticket to get the further help. Here is the support link:

Thanks for your understanding and hope everything goes well with you.

    Best regards,

    Simon

Yes, it is possible to prompt for the device category during the Autopilot Enrollment Status Page (ESP) using Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune. This can be achieved by customizing the Autopilot profile and creating a dynamic device group based on the device category.

Here are the steps to achieve this:

    1. Create Device Categories in Intune: In the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, navigate to Devices > Windows > Enrollment Status Page > Device Categories. Create the device categories that you want to use.
    2. Customize the Autopilot profile: In the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, navigate to Devices > Windows > Windows enrollment > Enrollment Status Page. Customize the Autopilot profile by setting the Device Category to "Dynamic" and selecting the device categories that you created in step 1.
    3. Create Dynamic Device Group: In the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, navigate to Groups > New group. Create a dynamic device group based on the device category selected in the Autopilot profile. You can set the criteria to match the device category chosen by the user.
    4. Assign apps and configurations to the Dynamic Device Group: Once you have created the dynamic device group, you can assign the required apps and configurations to this group. These apps and configurations will be applied automatically based on the device category chosen during Autopilot ESP.

By following these steps, you can prompt for the device category during Autopilot ESP and automatically apply the respective configurations and apps based on the chosen category.
