Hi All,

Today I installed a copy of Win 11 Pro on a new SSD in my PC. I used my Microsoft account as the log in (also I'm admin).

Post instillation, I ran windows update.

I next enabled Remote desktop and network discovery.

I have attempted to remote desktop this Win 11 install from another Win 11 PC and I cannot figure out what the user-name and password for RDP should be. I assume it would be the same as my windows account login.

During the install of Win 11, I was never asked to create a password. When I entered my Microsoft Account username(email), it used MS authenticator on my phone to verify my Identity.

What am I doing wrong? What would my username and password be?

I feel it's something basic I'm not doing, but I just can't figure it out.

James

    Hello

When you’re using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to connect to a Windows 11 Pro machine, the username and password you need to use are typically the same as your Windows account login.

However, since you’ve used a Microsoft account during the installation and authenticated via Microsoft Authenticator, you might not have set a traditional password. In this case, you can try the following:

Use your Microsoft Account Credentials: You can use your Microsoft Account email as the username and your Microsoft Account password as the password.

Switch to a Local Account: If you’re still having trouble, you might want to switch to a local account. Here’s how:

    Open Settings.

    Click on Accounts.

    Click the Your info tab.

Click the “Sign in with a local account instead” option.

    Click the Next button.

Confirm the new local account credentials, including username, password, and hint password.

When using RDP, it’s recommended to use Network Level Authentication for an extra layer of security. This means you’ll need to authenticate yourself on the network before you can access the remote computer.
