Trying to connect VM on azure but unable to see RDP

Hello everyone,

I am very new to Azure space and trying to learn how to create VM's on Azure, I have tried youtube videos and Microsoft troubleshooting of this, resulting to be unsuccessful.

I try connect my VM I don't see the dropdown box circled in red where it usually from the a lot of youtube videos, which they do and usually a RDP would appear everytime I try to click on the Download RDP file it does not have a popup.

I would appreciate some guidance as I am stuck.

Hi Vu Nguyen:

Once you click connect from your browser you would see a small file download which once you click will take you to the newly created vm(provided you have setup the firewall and exceptions to access it from your machine).

usually a RDP would appear everytime I try to click on the Download RDP file it does not have a popup.

is the option is completely greyed out and unclickable or that you are able to start the download successfully but couldnt see any file in 'Downloads' section? could you pls clarify?

@Vinodh247 Selecting connect does not provide me any other options and just refresh. On the link you have provided me step 1 and steps is not on there.

Option is not greyed out and still highlighted as blue (remain default). When I click on it there is no pop up RDP to download. I follow all troubleshooting from Microsoft and had no success. I have deleted the VM and recreated it and still no success.

Just one question, did you choose a Windows VM or Linux VM?

NGV: I somehow strongly feel this is related to the download file not getting through into your system in the first place, not because of anything from azure or vm. Did you check your browser settings, if there are any blocking settings which stops the file from gettting downloaded? is pop up blockers disabled in your browser?

@Dillon Silzer Just to clarify this was Windows VM

@Vinodh247 I have checked my browsers settings, then changed browsers, and finally resorting uninstall/reinstalled and still had no pop up to download.

NGV Welcome to Microsoft Q&A, Thank you for posting your here!!

You can try to connect to Azure VM from remote desktop connection App

Now get the public IP address of the VM from Azure Portal

Now try to paste the Public IP address in the Remote desktop connection and connect.
