Authenticator App: otpauth protocol does not add account

Question

On Android (and possibly other platforms), the Microsoft Authenticator app launches successfully when a web link using the otpauth:// protocol is clicked on. However, the expected behaviour is that the link (which includes the account secret, and is the equivalent to scanning the QR code) would add, or prompt to add the account.

Using the Google Authenticator app, I am prompted to add the new account, and behaves as I would expect:
